How to download your tradebook from Angel One
Angel One is the broker where people most often download the wrong report. The one you want is called Trades and Charges — not Tax P&L.
Downloading it, step by step
- Open Angel One on the web and go to Download Reports.
- Under the section for stocks, SGBs, bonds and F&O, choose Trades and Charges — this is the tradewise report.
- Do not pick Tax P&L or P&L Summary. Those are per-instrument summaries with no individual trades.
- Set the date range you want to analyse.
- Click Download Report and save the CSV or Excel file.
Tax P&L and P&L Summary look like the obvious choice and they are not. They give one row per stock with averaged buy and sell prices — the individual trades, and every timestamp with them, are already gone. Choose Trades and Charges.
Angel One's Trades and Charges export carries the date of each trade but not the intraday time. That is enough to measure how much you traded on a given day, which days your losses concentrated on, and whether you trade more on losing days. It is not enough to measure anything that depends on minutes — such as how quickly you re-entered after a loss. A good analyser should tell you this rather than quietly inventing a number.
A tradebook is not a P&L statement
This is the single most common mistake, and it is worth getting right before you download anything. Brokers offer several reports that look similar:
| Report | What it contains | Useful for behaviour? |
|---|---|---|
| Tradebook | One row per executed trade, with the time, quantity, price and buy/sell side | Yes — this is the one you want |
| P&L / Tax P&L statement | One row per stock or contract, with averaged buy and sell prices | No — individual trades and their timing are gone |
| Holdings / positions | What you currently own | No — it is a snapshot, not a history |
| Ledger / funds statement | Money in and out of your account | No — no trade detail at all |
Behaviour lives in the timing and sequence of trades — how many minutes after a loss you re-entered, whether the next position was larger, how long you held losers versus winners. A P&L statement averages all of that away. If your download has one row per instrument rather than one row per trade, you have the wrong report.
What the file needs to contain
Whatever the column headings are called, the export needs these five things for the analysis to work:
- Instrument or symbol — which contract or stock
- Buy / sell side — sometimes a separate column, sometimes a signed quantity
- Quantity
- Price — the executed price, not the order price
- Date and time — the timestamp matters most; a date alone limits what can be measured
Column names differ wildly between brokers, which is why a good analyser maps columns by meaning rather than expecting one fixed format.
What to do with the file once you have it
A tradebook on its own is a spreadsheet of numbers. What makes it useful is reading the sequence: which trades followed a loss, which were larger than your own average, which days you traded far more than usual, and how long you held losers compared with winners.
Riskora's free Mirror does exactly that, and it does it inside your browser — the file is never uploaded to a server. You get a Discipline Score out of 100, the single pattern costing you the most, and the rupee figure attached to it.
Common questions
Which Angel One report is the tradebook?
The report called Trades and Charges, under Download Reports. It is the tradewise report with one row per executed trade.
Why should I not use Angel One's Tax P&L report?
Tax P&L aggregates by instrument with averaged prices and no per-trade timing. Behavioural analysis needs individual trades, so it cannot be derived from that report.
Does the Angel One export include trade times?
It includes the date but generally not the intraday time. Day-level patterns such as overtrading and loss concentration can still be measured; minute-level patterns such as revenge re-entry cannot.
